Joe Corey Jnr

Head Coach

I first started coaching when I was 14 local grassroots clubs where I caught the coaching bug.

It was when I was at college, I passed my FA Level 1 & FA Level 2 Coaching badges, it wasn’t long after I left college that I started working for West Ham United. Whilst I was there, I passed my UEFA B Coaching badge at the age of 21. In total I spent just under 10 years at West Ham, working on all sorts of community programmes in Essex & East London. I was also fortunate to spend some time coaching abroad in the Netherlands whilst there and I loved being involved in some of the senior 1st team matchday experiences on the pitch, through some half time coaching.

I left West Ham in early 2017 & set up and run grassroots community programme and youth section with a local Non-League club. As part of the Community Programme, we delivered all sorts of sessions, engaged with Schools with PE lessons & after school clubs. It was very successful and won many awards, including Community Club of the Year twice and Enterprising Club of the Year. I also during that time had some personal success and won Coach of the Year and was nominated for many other awards. These were all awarded by Active Basildon. I also received a Highly Recommended award from the Essex FA. During this busy period, I also managed to find some time to go out to Ireland and help out a women’s NIFL side called Mid Ulster Ladies when visiting family.

In 2021 I started to look at the opportunity to get into scouting, So I took the FA Talent Identification Course. I was then approached by Colchester United FC to get involved in the Category B Academy and recommending young talent in the local area. I gladly accepted. In recent weeks I have had it confirmed I will be a Talent Identification Officer for Colchester United for the 2023/24 season.

Head Coach

I started getting into coaching more seriously in recent years to support my son (Joe Jnr). I had many small previous experiences helping and doing odd bits but over time I wanted to help and grow football at youth level in the local community.

I first started out as a first aider after completing my FA Level 2 course in 1st Aid. That was something I had always been comfortable with, even as a young lad I spent many years in the St John’s Ambulance Brigade. As I got more into coaching, I passed my FA Playmaker and eventually got round to completing my FA Level 1.

In 2021 I was nominated and awarded by Active Basildon Activity Hero after getting more and more involved with coaching in the community and the success our programme was having.
